Connect Backdocket to Zoom AI Companion

Use Backdocket in Zoom AI Companion to look up cases, deadlines, tasks, and notes, and to update records, without leaving Zoom.

Before you start

  • An active Backdocket account for your firm. Backdocket is a paid subscription.
  • A Zoom account with AI Companion, including Custom Agents in AI Studio.
  • Your Zoom account administrator must allow Custom AI Companion to perform tasks in third-party apps.

Adding the app

1. Allow third-party apps (Zoom admin, once per account). In the Zoom web portal, open the account settings for AI Companion and turn on the setting that lets Custom AI Companion perform tasks in third-party apps.

2. Install Backdocket. Find Backdocket in the Zoom App Marketplace and select Add. Review the permissions and allow the app.

3. Add Backdocket to an agent. In the Zoom web portal, open AI Studio > Custom Agents. Create an agent, or edit an existing one. Under Tools, select Add Tools, choose Backdocket, and select Next.

4. Authorize. Select Authorize. The Backdocket sign-in page opens. Sign in with your Backdocket email and password and approve access. Zoom then loads the Backdocket tools; select Confirm.

5. Try it. Ask the agent a question about your firm, for example: “Using Backdocket, how many open cases does the firm have, broken down by case type?”

Using the app

Once connected, AI Companion can use Backdocket on your behalf. You can:

  • Find cases by client name, case number, status, date, or other fields
  • Summarize a case: status, assigned staff, key dates, treatment, and related contacts
  • Count your caseload by case type, attorney, or status, using your firm’s saved searches
  • Review open and past-due tasks and deadlines
  • Look up contacts and the cases they are connected to
  • Update records, such as tasks and notes, when you ask it to

Example prompts

  • “Using Backdocket, how many open cases does the firm have, broken down by case type?”
  • “In Backdocket, how many cases is each attorney handling?”
  • “Summarize the Backdocket case Smith_John_AA.”
  • “Which Backdocket tasks are past due, and who are they assigned to?”
  • “Which Backdocket cases have had suit filed?”

Permissions and data

  • Every request runs as the Backdocket user who authorized the app, with that user’s existing Backdocket permissions, and only for that user’s firm.
  • If your Backdocket login belongs to more than one firm, include the firm’s name in your request.
  • Emails and text messages are never sent without your explicit approval.
  • Backdocket does not receive your Zoom meetings, recordings, or Zoom account data. It receives only the requests AI Companion sends to the Backdocket tools.

Troubleshooting

  • Backdocket does not appear under Add Tools. Make sure the Backdocket app is installed for your Zoom account and that your Zoom administrator allows Custom AI Companion to use third-party apps.
  • Sign-in fails, or Zoom shows an error after you sign in. Confirm your email and password work at application.backdocket.com and that your Backdocket user is active and assigned to your firm. Then select Authorize again.
  • The agent asks which firm to use, or answers about the wrong firm. Your Backdocket login belongs to more than one firm. Name the firm in your request.
  • The agent cannot find something you can see in Backdocket, or reports a permission error. The connector has exactly your Backdocket permissions. Firm-wide reports use your firm’s saved searches, which require permission to view firm searches. Ask your Backdocket administrator.
  • Backdocket stopped working after you changed your Backdocket password. Remove Backdocket from the agent’s tools, add it again, and authorize.
  • Still stuck? Contact Backdocket support.

Removing the app

1. Remove Backdocket from your agents. In AI Studio > Custom Agents, edit each agent that uses Backdocket and remove Backdocket from its Tools.

2. Uninstall the app. In the Zoom App Marketplace, open Manage > Added Apps, find Backdocket, and select Remove.

What happens when you remove it

  • AI Companion and your agents can no longer read or change your Backdocket data.
  • Your Backdocket data is not changed or deleted. Records created or updated through Zoom stay in Backdocket.
  • Your Backdocket account and your other connected apps are not affected.
  • You can add Backdocket again at any time by following the steps above.
